From the UK organisation, standard format for Student. The document must contain all mandatory items for the visa category.

Without the main document from the receiving organisation, the visa is not issued. This is the main long-stay document.

Completed long-stay visa application form Critical

Standard embassy form, fully completed. Must align with the other documents.

Mismatch between form data and attachments is the main technical refusal cause.

Passport (validity ≥ visa term + 6 months, 2 free pages) Critical

Diplomas and transcripts (apostilled + sworn translation) Critical

All academic documents. Apostilles issued by the KZ MoE. Translation by a beeidigter / sworn translator.

Without apostille, documents are not accepted. Translation by an ordinary translator without seal = flag.

Police clearance certificate from KZ (5+ years) Critical

From all countries of long-term residence (if any). Apostilled.

Standard for long-term visas. Any conviction = refusal or additional check.

Proof of accommodation in destination country Critical

Lease agreement (minimum 6 months) or confirmation from employer/university about accommodation provided.

Without housing, residency is not granted — a mandatory condition for registration in the country.

Health insurance covering the entire term Critical

Coverage minimum €30,000-50,000 depending on country. No deductible. Valid for the full visa duration.

Standard for most long-term visas. A policy without country coverage or with a deductible = refusal.

Financial proof (bank statement) Critical

Sufficient funds for the whole period (per country requirements) + 20% reserve. Regular inflows, not one-off deposits.

The main filter for long-term visas. Sudden large deposits 1-2 weeks before submission = flag.

Cover letter (motivation letter)

Where required, no certificate = no visa. A pro-argument even where not formally required.

Proof of ties to KZ (for return)

Property, family, obligations, prospective employer in KZ — anything that strengthens return intent.

Many categories require non-immigrant intent — strong ties = pro-argument.

Tax certificate from KZ (no debts)

From the KZ tax authority.

A pro-argument for investor / passive-income categories. Standard for some residencies.

Proof of fee payment (visa, residency, recognition) Critical

All consular fees paid. Receipts and confirmations.

Without fee payment, the package will not be accepted.

Marriage / birth certificates (if traveling together)

Apostilled and sworn-translated.

For family reunification / joint application.

Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate for PhD/research-master's in restricted subjects (some engineering, physics, chemistry). Required pre-application.

ATAS-required field without ATAS certificate = automatic refusal. Lookup at gov.uk/guidance/academic-technology-approval-scheme before applying. Process 4-6 weeks.

Pre-paid IHS receipt # Critical

NHS Immigration Health Surcharge £776/year × duration. Paid online at gov.uk during visa application — receipt# saved.

IHS payment confirmation embedded in the visa application. Without IHS = system blocks submission. Reception# is proof of compliance.

Parent/guardian consent (if under 18)

Notarised consent from parents for under-18 student travelling to UK alone. Plus copies of parents' IDs.

Under-18 without parental consent = risk of trafficking flag. UK very strict. Consent must be specific to UK travel + named guardian arrangements.

Academic English exemption letter (if applicable)

Letter from current institution showing medium of instruction = English (if school taught fully in English). Substitutes for IELTS for UKVI.

MOI letter accepted only from specific majority-English institutions. Letter must be explicit «100% English instruction», signed by dean/registrar, on letterhead. Generic «taught some courses in English» = rejected.

Concrete plan: return to KZ with a specific employer / sector, or extension via residency. Names of companies, sectors in KZ.

A clear plan removes immigration-intent suspicion. Don't say «maybe I'll stay» — that's a negative signal.

Strong answer

Specifically: employer (contract), university (scholarship / blocked account), personal funds (savings statement), or sponsor letter from parents with their financial documents.

Numbers must match the actual bank statement.

CAS valid 6 months from issue date. Apply within this window; otherwise CAS expires + a new CAS is required (often a new fee from the university).

«IELTS for UKVI [overall band]. Taken [date] at [Pearson/IDP] approved centre [name]. Reading [X], Listening [Y], Speaking [Z], Writing [W].» NOT regular IELTS — SELT-specific.

Only IELTS for UKVI / OET / TOEFL ETS for UK valid. Regular IELTS = automatic refusal under Appendix English Language. The centre must be on the approved SELT list.

How will you fund yourself — what's the maintenance requirement?

Strong answer

«Maintenance: £1,334×9 = £12,006 (London) or £1,023×9 = £9,207 (outside London) held for 28 consecutive days minimum. Plus first-year tuition fees [if not paid]. Total in account: £[X]. Bank statement attached, ending [date].»

28-day rule is strict — the statement must show the full maintenance amount every day in this window. One dip below = refusal under FM-SE Appendix Finance.

Strong answer

«[University] ranks [position] in [QS/THE/Complete] for [field]. Faculty [specific name] specializes in [my research interest]. UK offers [specific advantage: 12-month MSc / industry placement / Russell Group network] vs Germany [reason] or US [reason].»

The officer wants to see the «genuine student» test — informed choice with research. Generic «good education» is weak. Cite specific faculty, programs, alumni outcomes.

«Apply for Graduate Route 2-year post-study work visa for [career path]. Or return to Kazakhstan to [specific role/employer/sector].» Graduate Route is a legal extension; mentioning it is OK.

Student route is NOT dual-intent. But Graduate Route is a legitimate continuation. «Hoping to switch to Skilled Worker» without an offer = too speculative — better to say «Graduate Route then return to KZ».

«[Spouse name] applying as dependant under Student route. [N] children applying jointly.» Only postgraduate research courses (PhD/9+mo research master's) or government-sponsored students can bring dependants since Jan 2024.

Major rule change Jan 2024: undergraduate + taught master's students CANNOT bring dependants. Only PhD/research master's/government sponsors.

«Up to 20 hours per week during term, full-time during vacations — as Student route conditions permit. No self-employment, no professional sportsman, no entertainer roles.» Knowledge of the rules.

Over 20 hours = breach of conditions = visa curtailment + future ban. Strict enforcement via employer reporting + HMRC data sharing with Home Office.

«Completed [bachelor's/master's] in [field] from [university KZ], GPA [X]. Total [N] years prior education. Meets [University] entry requirement of [Y].» Apostille + certified translation attached.

KZ diploma without apostille + sworn translation = automatic refusal. NARIC equivalency check may be required for non-mainstream majors.

«[N] years studied in English-medium [school/program/courses]. Or: completed IELTS for UKVI as primary evidence.» An MOI letter from a previous institution may serve the English requirement.

MOI (Medium of Instruction) letter from a previous institution exempts from IELTS if the school taught fully in English. KZ schools rarely qualify — usually IELTS path.

How will you pay the NHS Immigration Health Surcharge?

Strong answer

«IHS is £776/year for Students × [course duration in years] = £[X]. Paid online during visa application (mandatory step), receipt #[Y].» Part of the application process, not a separate payment.

IHS rate increased to £776/year Feb 2024. Without IHS payment, visas are not issued. Course year + 4 months grace = IHS calculated including grace period.

«Previous UK study: [if any, dates, programs, sponsor]. Other countries: [list].» Prior UK study may trigger the «academic progression» test (new program above the previous level).

Academic progression rule: each new Student visa must be a higher academic level OR same level in a different field with justification. Repeat-level without cause = refusal.

«TB test completed [date] at [IOM-approved clinic in Almaty/Astana], certificate valid 6 months. Result: clear.» Clinics: IOM on Furmanov / Gogol in Almaty.

TB test mandatory for KZ residents for visas >6 months. Only IOM-approved clinics — not just any private clinic. Test certificate valid 6 months from date issued.
